FAQs

Question - What is a Video Lottery Terminal?

A Video Lottery Terminal (VLT) is an electronic terminal similar to a computer where someone can wager money. VLTs can simulate almost any type of traditional game where someone would wager, such as poker, blackjack, or slot machines. They can even be organized at a table where multiple players could play against each other, such as at a competitive poker tournament. Some call them the 'crack-cocaine' of gambling. They are not your father's or mother's 'slots.'

Question - Who is the 'bidder' for the Video Lottery Terminal ('Slots') Facility License at Arundel Mills Mall?

Cordish Company

Question - Who owns the Arundel Mills Mall?

Simon Corperation

Question - Why is there currently a dispute over Video Lottery Terminals('Slots') in Anne Arundel County if the State of Maryland has legalized them by Consitutional Ammendment?

A provision of the constitutional ammendment delegated planning and zoning authority over Video Lottery Terminals to the local governments. They currenlty are not a permitted use in Anne Arundel County.

Question - If 60% of the people of Maryland want slots in Anne Arundel County, but not at Arundel Mills, then where should they go?

Stop Slots at Arundel Mills would prefer to not see slots anywhere in Anne Arundel County. We do not support any form of predatory gambling. However, if they must go somewhere then they should not be located near residential communities which do not want them.

Question - Why is Magna, the owner of Laurel Raceway, not being considered for the Video Lottery Terminal ('Slots') Facility License?

As of July 5th, Magna's bid had been disqualified by the Maryland Video Lottery Terminal Facility Location Commission because they did not submit an application fee with their bid. They do not have a valid bid in consideration by the State of Maryland.
